Using MIT as a treasure hunting and Gold recovery resource

Tuesday 13 March 2007 @ 9:07 pm

While on one of my internet treasure hunting expeditions I came across a great resource for the Gold miner and panner to use.

MIT has been offering access to there courses for non credited use to the public to help with there education, and as a fellow Heavy Mineral Hunter and rockhound I wanted to share this resource with you.

The course is on Sedimentary Geology and here is a brief course overview

This course covers sediments in the rock cycle, production of sediments at the Earth’s surface, physics and chemistry of sedimentary materials, and scale and geometry of near-surface sedimentary bodies, including aquifers. We will also explore topics like sediment transport and deposition in modern sedimentary environments, burial and lithification, survey of major sedimentary rock types, stratigraphic relationships of sedimentary basins, and evolution of sedimentary processes through geologic time.

The Secret to Cleaning Your Metal Detecting Finds

Tuesday 13 March 2007 @ 12:53 am

Metal detecting is considered to be one of today’s most sought-after hobbies. In fact, nearly 80% of people who are into treasure hunting love metal detecting as well.

Many people have tried metal detecting, but only those who know what it takes to become successful in metal detecting accomplish something. People who persevere the most tend to find more treasures than any other person does, even if they have been doing metal detecting for many years.

This goes to show that metal detecting is not just any “finder’s keepers, losers weepers” game. The valuables that people find are not appraised just because they are rare. Most importantly, their values depend on the perseverance people use when finding metals.

Choosing the Right Fit of Scuba Diving Wetsuits

Wednesday 7 March 2007 @ 12:18 am

A water sport enjoyed by a lot of people all over the globe, scuba diving takes place almost anywhere that encloses great crystal waters and rich marine life; from the breathtaking turquoise waters of the Bahamas to the modest shores of Alaska and Australia. Scuba diving is not a cheap sport as it is; it involves the requirement of scuba diving equipments that may be a little heavy on the pocket. However, these equipments are what make the sport possible as well as safe and non-health threatening.

One such essential gear of scuba diving is scuba diving wetsuits. It is important to take note that the fun and enjoyment of scuba diving stops once the body starts to get chilled under water. Remember that temperatures below certain water depths become very freezing, which cause body heat loss and can lead to serious health threat without the appropriate suit to protect it. Water takes away heat from the body about twenty times faster than air, which means that for a certain temperature it has a bigger cooling effect, that even a seemingly warm water temperature of 86°F, can become unpleasantly cold after a while.

Important Cave Exploring Accessories To Bring

Tuesday 6 March 2007 @ 12:36 am

Hypothermia, falling, being struck by an object, and inadequate equipment are four of the major reasons behind caving exploration accidents. Most caving injuries could be prevented by wearing appropriate clothing, having the right training, observing good caving exploration habits and bringing the right accessories and equipment.

Hard hat

It is very important that you wear a good quality helmet when caving. Ensure that the hard hat has a chinstrap so it will remain in place and won’t fall off during falls or accidents. It is also advisable to have a light mounted on your helmet so that you don’t have anything to hold with your hands when you are in tight spaces.
